The BIOSEB Spontaneous Activity Wheel offers an effective solution for quantifying rodent voluntary activity within their home cage environment. The embedded electronics provide a wide range of measurements including wheel revolutions, average/min/max speed, acceleration, utilization time, access events, and more. The Premium model expands on these standard features, enabling animal filming and task complexity enhancement by removing bars. Beyond neuromuscular diseases, this tool also facilitates the study of neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson's, Huntington's, and ALS.

Bioseb’s wheels are easy-to-use, time-efficient and reliable. Thanks to their large cage size allowing standard bedding and free access to Food/Drink, a single animal can be housed for an extended period of time. Animals benefit from free access to a running wheel featuring a large diameter for comfortable and natural exercise. In addition to the transparent living cages enabling long-term monitoring of the animals, the combination of a coded disc with an electronic sensor allows you to record parameters pertaining to the voluntary running of animals, who freely decide upon exercise timing and intensity. With the best accuracy on the market (22.5°), the rotation disc allows for the capture of very short laps events (Play/curiosity events) and accurate recording of accelerations (calculated in the optional software).
Measurements include the distance run in both directions, the number of wheel revolutions, average/min/max speed, acceleration, total time in the wheel, number of access events, and can be displayed in statistical form or sorted by custom time periods. Spontaneous Activity Wheels are an ideal tool for studies on Drug Screening, Phenotyping, Circadian Rhythms, Neuromuscular Diseases and also Parkinson disease, Huntington disease and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Operating principle

Highly reliable sensors offer an excellent angular resolution (22°) and time resolution (0.1 seconds) to accurately record spontaneous exercising behavior, even allowing the study of subject acceleration and power pattern.
A complete digital solutionis provided by Bioseb’s ACTIVW-SOFT software allowing you to monitor up to 64 cages simultaneously via an external connection to the PC USB port (up to 5 m between cage and PC).
